Dr Kázmér Kovács

Dr Kovács graduated cum laude from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences in 1972. He worked as a trainee from 1972-1974 and passed the bar examination in 1974 with honors. He has since been a member of the Budapest Bar Association and in 1992 established the Kovács Kázmér Law Firm via a transformation of the company.

Between 1992 and 1997, Dr Kovács worked as a secretary of the Budapest Bar Association; since 1997 he has been the deputy-chairman of the Budapest Bar Association. In 2006 he was elected the Deputy Chairman of the Hungarian Bar Association. Dr Kovács, as the Chairman of the Codification Committee of the Hungarian Bar Association, is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Hungarian Lawyers Association.
Dr Kovács has written numerous studies and articles in periodicals, such as in Hungarian Law (Magyar Jog), Economy and Law (Gazdaság és Jog), and Insurance Review (Biztosítási Szemle). A motorist legal handbook, written by Dr Kovács, was published in 1996 by the Economy and Law Publishing House. Between 1998 and 2004, he worked as a lecturer at the Department of Civil Law and the Institute for Postgraduate Legal Studies of the Eötvös Loránd University’s Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. Since 1999, Dr Kovács has been the only lawyer member of the editorial board of the periodical Collection of Court Decisions (Bírósági Döntvények Tára). On several occasions, Dr Kovács has been a member of different ad-hoc codification committees set up by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Finance. Between 1994 and 2002, he was a member of the State Insurance Supervision Vehicle Liability Insurance Committee. He is a member of the Examination Committee of Legal Professions of the Ministry of Justice and also a member of the Final Examination Committee of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences. Dr Kovács is one of the co-authors of the sample rules and regulations of the ad hoc arbitration, supported by the Budapest Bar Association.

Since 1992, Dr Kovács has been the Chairman of the Legal Committee of the Hungarian Automobile Association, and the Deputy Chairman of the Association for Insuring and Supporting Hungarian Lawyers (MÜBSE) and the Chairman of the Committee for Complaints since 1997. Dr Kovács was awarded the Károly Eötvös prize in 1998 and the Award for Excellence in Law, both by the Hungarian Bar Association. In recognition of his decades of work as a lawyer and legal representative, in awareness-raising, and his contribution to the profession, the President of the Republic of Hungary awarded Dr Kovács the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary in 2007.
